Advocate General Ahmed Al Hammadi said that the High Criminal Court has rejected the appeal by the defendants in the case of car bomb explosion near a public park in Budaiya and upheld the 15-year jail sentence. The three-year jail sentence against one of the defendants for stealing a car was also upheld.
According to the case documents, six suspects were accused of conspiring to explode a car in Budaiya area and of assigning roles among themselves.
The second suspect stole the car while the fifth suspect stole two gas cylinders that he loaded into the car.
The first and second suspects put the two cylinders on the specified location in the vicinity of a public park while the fifth and sixth suspects were on the lookout and monitored the road during the operation.
The third suspect detonated the explosive remotely using a mobile phone.
The explosion was meant to terrify and intimidate people and to jeopardize security and stability.
The Public Prosecution charged the suspects with possessing explosive and destructive devices. The second suspect was charged with car theft.
The Prosecution referred them to the High Criminal Court that sentenced all suspects on May 25 last year to 15 years in jail and the second suspect to three years for car theft.
The convicts challenged the sentences at the High Criminal Court of Appeal.
