Shoukry follows up outcome of Cairo conference of Syrian opposition

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Saturday met with a delegation following up the outcome of Cairo Conference-2 of the Syrian opposition.

During the meeting, Shoukry asserted the importance of the achievements of Cairo conference-2 which reached a document agreed by the Syrian opposition factions.

He also pressed the need for continuing work to put into effect the decisions of Cairo Conference-2 which represented progress regarding uniting the visions of the Syrian opposition with the framework of working out a political solution to the Syrian crisis in accordance with the recommendations of the first Geneva Conference.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Badr Abdel Atti said the Syrian opposition delegation voiced thanks for Egypt over its backing and hosting of the Syrian opposition conferences.

The delegation also praised the role played by Egypt to render the conference a success and come out with important outcome, the spokesman added.

They also underlined the importance of Egypt's restoring its regional role in the recent period, terming Egypt as a backing for the Arab nation and the Syrian people in the face of the serious challenges facing them, he explained.

The delegation briefed the Egyptian top diplomat on the activities made by the delegates since the convocation of June conference and the changes that have taken place on the stances of many world countries regarding the conference.

The two sides agreed at the end of the meeting on continuing joint work to accelerate the implementation of Cairo Conference-2 to stem out bloodshed in the war-torn Syria and achieve the aspirations of the Syrian people to establish a democratic region.

Shoukry also asserted the importance of maintaining the unity of Syrian state and its territories and confronting the threats of the terrorist organizations to deter any schemes plotted by foreign parties against Syria. He also underlined the need for activating work of the Syrian follow-up committee which gathers all opposition factions at home and abroad
