
Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met Wednesday in Khartoum with Sudanese President Omar al Bashir, the Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.
Shoukry, currently on a visit to Sudan, conveyed President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's best regards to Bashir and wished him success in the upcoming presidential election, Foreign Ministry spokesman Badr Abdel Aati said in a press statement.
The foreign minister invited Bashir to attend Egypt's Economic Development Conference in (EEDC) Sharm el Sheikh on March 13-15, Abdel Aati said.
He also invited him to the Arab Summit, slated for March 28-29, also in the Red Sea resort city, he added.
The meeting also took up bilateral relations and preparations for a joint committee meeting that will be held for the first time at the level of presidents, Abdel Aati said.
They also discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern, the spokesman said.
Abdel Aati said the talks also focused on Arab-African relations and the phenomenon of terrorism.
The situation in Libya, also figured high in the meeting with both Shoukry and Bashir stressing the importance of supporting efforts of the UN envoy to Libya Bernardino Léon and a political solution to the conflict in Libya, he said.
They also discussed the situation in Syria and the importance of reaching a political solution to the Syrian crisis, Abdel Aati added.
Shoukry also posted Bashir on the outcome of meetings hosted by Cairo to unify efforts of the Syrian opposition, as well as efforts to reach a unified vision that would lead to a political solution to the Syrian crisis, the spokesman said.
They also discussed cooperation among Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia to achieve common interests of the three eastern Nile Basin countries, Abdel Aati said.
Shoukry also thanked Sudan for hosting a recent trilateral meeting of the eastern Nile Basin states, he added.
