Interior Minister Mohamad Ibrahim said Monday President Abdel Fattah El Sisi paid special attention to the security file, as security was key for more investments and production in the country.
"President Sisi follows up the security situation through daily reports and via his contacts around the clock with officials," Ibrahim said in an interview with MENA.
Ibrahim said that the National Security sector in cooperation with the Public Security and the special operations succeeded during the last three months to deal preemptive blows to the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood (MB) group.
"As many as 16 takfiris, 494 rioters, 10 suspects of setting telecommunications pylons ablaze, 140 attackers on police facilities, 153 suspects of cutting roads and 44 terrorist cells were arrested during that period," the minister pointed out.
"About 26 primitive bombs were also defused," he said.
As many as 78 suspects of burning electricity pylons and 22 suspects of setting fire to train coaches and public transport buses were arrested," he added.
Asked about the investigations into the so-called "Helwan Brigades" which had aired a video on YouTube, the minister said that within 24 hours the identities of the members of the "terrorist cell" were revealed and more details would soon be revealed.
Ibrahim said that as many as 518 policemen were martyred in the recent violence and the security agencies were ready to provide more sacrifices to protect the nation.
With the school year approaching, the minister said: "We will not allow any attempts to spread chaos inside universities or any attacks on the educational facilities."
He added that the ministry took serious steps to solve the traffic problems, including the transfer of street vendor to marketplaces allocated for them.
