The Security and Defense Committee at the Sudanese Parliament pressed the need for deployment of joint forces on the Sudanese-Ethiopian borders to counter any potential attacks by gangs and armed groups in the south-eastern part of Sudan’s eastern state of Gadarif.
In statements on Sunday, Head of the Security and Defense Committee at the Sudanese Parliament Lt General Ahmed Al Tohami said stealing and kidnapping operations have been reported against Sudanese farmers in the border areas, noting that the committee has asked security bodies concerned to accelerate the demarcation of borders between Gadarif state and Ethiopia to end the problem.
He also unveiled the formation of a joint force including the security bodies, popular defense and the armed forces to repel any attacks by the armed gangs, noting that there has been cooperation with the Ethiopian side in this regard over the past period.
Sudan’s Gadarif and Blue Nile states border Ethiopia’s Amhara region. The borders between Sudan and Ethiopia were drawn by the British and Italian colonizers in 1908.
