Syria arrests suspect for bombings killing 38

Syrian authorities arrested on Sunday a suspect responsible for the twin explosions in the southern city of Swaida over the weekend that killed at least 38 people, state news agency SANA reported.

The report identified the defendant as Abu Trabi, saying he is a newcomer to the city of Swaida and a member of the al-Qaida-linked Nusra Front.

According to SANA, Abu Trabi has confessed his guilt in the twin bombings that rocked the predominantly-Druze city over the weekend. One of the bombings targeted Sheikh Wahid al-Balous, a Druze spiritual leader and an outspoken critic of the Syrian government.

The death of al-Balous, who was also a leader of a Druze militia, has sparked a wave of resentment and anger in Swaida, where his followers accused the Syrian authority of being behind his death.
