Tehran - FNA

Syria held western countries and their regional allies responsible for fanning the flames of carnage and creating pretexts for spreading terrorism in the country. Syria’s Foreign and Expatriates Ministry have made the remarks in two identical letters addressed to the United Nations secretary-general and president of the UN Security Council, Al-Alam reported. The ministry also referred to a chemical attack in Eastern al-Ghouta on the suburbs of Damascus on August 21 when hundreds of people were killed and scores of others were injured. It said countries involved in the plot against Syria, particularly the US, France, Turkey and Saudi Arabia, have been seeking to fabricate excuses for justifying a continuation of the aggression against the Arab country since the beginning of the crisis there in 2011. "Less than a year after the crisis, facts are starting to surface day after day," the ministry said, adding, "Reports, studies and documented researches abound as to the involvement of the US, Turkey and several other countries, whether directly or indirectly, in these appalling carnages in Syria...." America's leading mainstream investigative journalist, Seymour Hersh, recently published an article exposing the chemical weapons attack in Eastern al-Ghouta last August as a false flag provocation. By the time of the attack, the US and some of its allies blamed Damascus for the chemical attack on Eastern al-Ghouta. However, the Syrian government strongly denied the accusation, saying the attack was carried out by the militants operating inside the country to draw in foreign intervention. Subsequent investigations by the UN and Russia backed Syria’s assertions. The ministry also called on the UN Security Council to demand the countries that support terrorism in the Middle Eastern country refrain from sending arms and funds for the militants fighting against the Syrian government. Syria has been the scene of a deadly crisis since March 2011. Reports say more than 150,000 people have so far been killed and millions displaced in the foreign-backed violence.
