Court of misdemeanors sentenced on Saturday Taymour el Sobky to three years for defaming and insulting Egyptian women.
Sobky was referred to court over charges of spreading rumors to harm public peace, after appearing in December as a guest with a talk show on CBC satellite channel with show host Khairy Ramadan and accused women, especially Upper Egyptian women, of having a tendency to cheat on their husbands.
He claimed that “30% of women have readiness for immorality... but just cannot find someone to encourage them.”
The prosecution received complaints from several citizens accusing Sobky of slander and defamation.
During interrogations, he asserted that he depended on statistical studies from information collected via a Facebook page with over 1 million likes.
The talk show has been suspended for 15 days and privately-owned CBC channel issued an apology to its viewers over the controversial episode.
