Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ahmed Tayyeb cautioned of a scheme to disseminate the Shia creed as a way to interfere in states' affairs and impose hegemony on the region.
In the weekly TV interview due to be wired on Friday, Tayyeb said "we are not against the Shia creed, but Azhar is against the scheme which is meant to spread this creed in a Sunni state to serve political agendas."
He referred to similar attempts that were doomed to failure despite huge amounts of money that were spent to attain this goal.
