Trial of 379 MB defendants over Nahda sit-in postponed

The Giza criminal court postponed the trial of 379 defendants of the Muslim Brotherhood group over charges of participating in the 2013 armed Nahda Square sit-in, premeditated murder and the formation of armed gangs to August 1.

The postponement was made as 21 defendants were not brought to the court premises.

Public Prosecution investigations revealed that the MB elements staged an armed sit-in and launched attacks from their camps at the citizens in the districts surrounding Al Istiqama Mosque, Al Bahr Al Azam and Al Sarayat and other areas in Giza governorate.

Their armed attacks claimed the lives of several citizens and policemen, the prosecution added.

Attacks by the MB elements on policemen left two killed and injured 27 others, destroyed 52 police vehicles.

They were arrested with 19 automatic rifles, 35 gun shots as well as more than 10,000 pieces of ammunition, locally-made bombs, gas masks as well as chest bulletproof chest protectors, 80 Molotov cocktails and lights weapons.

As many as 187 of MB elements admitted their affiliation to the terrorist group and their involvement in the armed sit-in using various types of weapons upon orders from the group leaders.
