Trial of 51 defendants in Port Said jail storming case adjourned

Port Said Criminal Court decided to defer till Tuesday the trial of 51 defendants over charges of storming Port Said Prison in January of 2013.

The court deferred the trial to have enough time to watch CDs included in the case file.

At the session, the defendants' lawyers urged the court to summon former president Mohamed Morsi, former interior minister Mohamed Ibrahim, Assistant Defense Minister Ahmed Wasfi to listen to their testimonies on the case.

Images and videos were displayed showing several police stations in Port Said that came under armed attacks.

The defendants were charged with carrying out riots and attempting to storm the prison following the ruling in Port Said massacre case in which a number of defendants were sentenced to death.

Investigations revealed that riots that took place in the incidents claimed the lives of 42 persons, including two policemen, while more than 79 others were injured.
