Port Said Criminal Court on Saturday adjourned to Monday session the trial of 51 defendants in Port Said prison clashes which took place after the verdict on the Port Said Stadium massacre of February 2012 was released.
The court took the decision to listen to the defense team and the prosecution debate.
The court listened for about an hour to the testimony of Head of the Training Authority at the Armed Forces General Ahmed Wasfi who asserted that army troops assigned to secure vital facilities came under fire.
He also said that he ordered reinforcement of troops around basic facilities in the governorate including security facilities, armed forces installations, banks, companies, Suez Canal course and others.
There are 51 defendants from Port Said in the case, charged with the murder of two policemen and 40 others, as well as injuring 150 others on 26-28 January 2013.
Clashes marred the governorate of Port Said for three days, starting on 26 January after the verdict on the Port Said Massacre of February 2012 was released. The verdict saw the sentencing of 21 to death for their responsibility in the deaths of 74 football fans in a football match in February 2012 between Al-Ahly and Al-Masry club.
