Trial of ex-PM Shafiq adjourned to Monday

A criminal court in Cairo has adjourned the trial of ex-prime minister Ahmed Shafiq and 10 others until 16 December in order to continue hearing pleadings. Ahmed Shafiq, who is currently living in Dubai, headed the Pilots' Association for Land Development in 1992. He is accused of seizing land that belonged to fish farms and illegally allocating it to the association. Shafiq and other 10 defendants, including Gamal and Alaa Mubarak, are accused of embezzling public funds. The court has said its final verdict will be issued on 19 December. The former air force commander left Egypt after losing the presidential election runoff to the Muslim Brotherhood's Mohamed Morsi.
