Spokesman for the Ministry of the Interior Mohamed Ali Laroui announced, Friday, the arrests of “terrorists” in recent days and the seizure of weapons and other materials used to commit terrorist acts.
He also said that security units remain on the alert to respond to terrorist threats and secure elections.
All security units are now constantly readying themselves to respond to terrorist threats “often by being proactive and anticipating,” to conduct surprise searches and raids,” he indicated.
He said Customs Guard units (joint National Guard and Customs units) had intercepted and seized last September 3 in Ben Guerdane a quantity of weapons and explosive that were on route to Sidi Bouzid and from there to Mount Chaambi in Kasserine.
Mohamed Ali Laroui also reported the arrest of terrorists “classified as dangerous,” including Moez Zaafouri and Mabrouk Zaafouri, as well as the seizure of 28 grenades, 30 grenade fuses, 11 RPG rockets, 760 cartridges of 7.66 mm calibre, 5,967 other ammunition of 7.66 calibre long rifle, in addition to 10,000 dinars in cash and a 4X4 vehicle used to carry all this war material.
On their part, special units of the National Guard managed to arrest 9 accomplices of this terrorist group and special anti-terror units captured three terrorists whose collusion with terrorist Khaled Chaieb aka Lokmene Abu Sakhr was proven.
Security units are still chasing fugitive terrorist and head of this group Lokmene Abu Sakhr and terrorist Mohamed Ali Gharbi (from Sidi Bouzid), also said Mohamed Ali Laroui, announcing the seizure during raids and searches in the governorate of Kasserine of para-military shoes, tents, electric generator to recharge electronic equipment and documentation on weapon disassembly and reassembly.
There is evidence that this group was directly tied to Lokmene Abu Sakhr, proven instigator of the killing of 15 soldiers, he indicated.
Laroui also said leakers of intelligence and those who disclose professional secrets likely to disturb public order and disrupt the process of investigation of terrorist acts will be prosecuted before military and civil courts.
