Tunisia summons reserve troops following Sousse attack

A Tunisian security coordination committee has decided to deploy military reserve troops to vital and sensitive areas in the country.

The decision followed the terrorist attack that targeted two hotels in the resort city of Sousse Friday, leaving scores of people dead and injured.

Prime Minister Habib Essid spoke in a press conference early Saturday. He told reporters a comprehensive probe will be opened to determine who is responsible for the attack.

Legal measures have also been taken against parties and associations that violate the constitution, Essid said, noting that some of them will be disbanded.

Private societies will be supervised by the state, he said, believing terrorists receive funds through them.

He declared the Djibal Samama al Maghira a closed military zone.

Manhunt campaigns will be conducted to arrest suspected elements and sleeper cells, the premier said.

He also talked of an exceptional plan to secure tourist and archaeological sites, noting that tourism police will be armed as of July 1.

A national conference on countering terrorism will be organized in September, Essid said.

He said a financial reward will be given to whoever provides information that leads to the capture of terrorist elements.
