Beji Caid Essebsi
Tunis - Arab Today

Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi opened on Wednesday the 33rd session of the Arab interior ministers' council.

In his opening speech, Essebsi said the event comes at a critical time as various regional countries witness deteriorating security conditions.

"Eradicating all forms of ethnic and religious strife is necessary to wipe out terrorism, especially the terrorist Daesh group," he said.

Essebsi called on Arab countries to spread the moderate teachings of Islam and eliminate unemployment to uproot terrorism.

Speaking about the Palestinian issue, Essebsi urged Arab leaders to cooperate to end the suffering of the Palestinian people and apply the two-state solution as soon as possible.

"The deteriorating security situation in Libya has a bad effect on Tunisia," he said, calling for applying security, social, cultural and intellectual solutions to wipe out terrorism in Arab countries.

The two-day event is attended by several Arab interior ministers, high-level security delegations as well as representatives of the Arab League (AL) and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

A high-level Egyptian delegation is taking part in the session under Egyptian Interior Minister Magdy Abdel Gaffar, who arrived here on Tuesday.
