The United Arab Emirates (UAE), represented by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, joined the 79th International Training Centre (ITC) Board Meeting which was held recently in Torino-Italy as part of the International Labour Organisation's annual meetings.
The session was attended by Guy Ryder, Director-General of the International Labour Organization, President of the Council, and more than 60 participants from Member States, as well as representatives of the employer's and workers' group.
On the sidelines of the meeting, UAE representatives honoured the Government of Italy in recognition of their continuous support to the training center, in addition to honouring members of participating governments for their efforts over the past three years.
Abdulrahman Mohamed Almarzooqi, Director of the Office of International Relations at the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, praised UAE’s efforts at the ITC, particularly since assuming the governments group vice-president position in 2014.
"The UAE has played a vital role in highlighting the Arabic identity across different activities and proposed the Arabic language as one of the main languages for the training programme at the centre. We urge an increase of such specialised training programmes for Arab countries to contribute towards raising competencies and meet international standards.
The meeting looked into ITC's 2015 reports and reviewed Strategic Plans and the draft report of 2016, in addition to discussing annual financial reports, latest activities and developments on human resources management and administrative matters at the centre.
The centre recorded an increased number of 12,500 trainees, estimated to be the highest since 2011, attending 1,800 online courses. The centre witnessed an increase in women attending training courses by 39.2%, compared to 38.4% in 2014. The board shall submit its report to the ILO Council on Wednesday.
