The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been re-elected to chair the Study Group 20 of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Smart Cities at the recent World Telecommunication Standardisation Assembly (WTSA) in Tunisia.

The UAE was also elected to vice chair the Study Group 2 on the Numbering Standard, according to UAE News Agency (WAM).

The UAE representative in the ITU (International Telecommunication Union), Nasser Al-Marzouqi, was elected to chair the Study Group of IoT and Smart Cities, while Saif bin Ghelaita, director of Technology Development Affairs in TRA, has been elected the vice-chairman of the Study Group of Numbering Standard.

"The UAE enjoys the confidence of the ITU member states, due to the tireless efforts of the country represented by TRA, in all the conferences and activities of the organisation. We look forward to continue the work according to a comprehensive and systematic plan to develop and empower the relations with the ITU, through constant participation in providing suggestions and opinions that enrich the work of the organisation, support its efforts and enhance its leading role of the global ICT sector," Hamad Obaid Al-Mansouri, the director-general of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, said.

The TRA will continue the process of preparing and developing young national competencies to reach leading positions in ICT related international organisations, Al-Mansouri added, noting that these efforts come in line with the objectives set by our the wise leadership within the UAE vision 2021 to invest in the human element as a fundamental pillar in sustainable development, WAM reported.
