
US Ambassador to Egypt Stephen Beecroft announced Thursday that US Agency for International Development (USAID) has allocated 72 million EGP to fund sanitation projects in the Upper Egyptian governorate of Assuit.
Undertaken in cooperation with the governorate, the projects meant to benefit as many as 315,000 citizens in twelve villages in Assuit and Sohag.
The new projects have created more than 300,000 job opportunities, the ambassador said.
He made the remarks during his today's visit to the governorate in the presence of USAID/Egypt Mission Director Sherry Carlin and Assiut Governor Yasser el Dessouky.
The visit aimed at inspecting a number of projects funded by the USAID.
For his part, governor el Dessouky underlined that the government will continue constructing infrastructure projects in several villages and municipalities.
He added that total of 93 villages in Assuit have sanitation projects.
Seven other sanitation projects have been finalized recently in Assuit, the governorate stated.
Hailing projects funded by the USAID in the governorate, El Dessouky handed the ambassador an honorary governorate shield.
