The Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator Kyung-wha Kang said that armed violence continues to escalate in Syria and the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate.
Kang briefed the Security Council at their meeting this morning on Syria, including resolution 2139, concerning humanitarian access to that country, and confirmed that 24 percent of the hospitals in the country were deemed not to be functioning, while medical personnel suffered from attacks.
Kang said via videoconference from Geneva, that in the past month, more than 3.9 million people had received food aid and hundreds of thousands had received other assistance.
"Cross-border assistance has allowed the UN and its partners to reach more people in need," she said.
The UN official said that humanitarian access to civilians in areas controlled by Da'esh continues to be difficult.
UN special envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura told the press that after 40 days in the region, he does not have a solution in this stage, in terms of peace plan, but a "bottom map approach" was proposed to the Security Council.
His proposal included an "incremental freeze zone," where an area is frozen from any conflicts, with the ability to build a political process which will give hope to the local population.
De Mistura said if this approach is taken forward, then Aleppo is the perfect candidate where it holds an iconic value in the area.
He confirmed that ISIL has awakened the world for a dangerous zone, and all parties involved should work to combat it, since the fight happening in Syria gave Da'esh the advantage.
