
The governor of Yemen's southwestern Thamar has escaped an assassination attempt at the hands of unknown gunmen, the Interior Ministry said on Sunday.
Maj Gen Yahya Al-Omari's convoy was attacked as he was visiting a hospital in the governorate, leading to the injury of a soldier who was accompanying the official, according to a statement by the ministry.
The ministry expressed its condemnation of the attack it said was aimed at targetting the security and stability of the governorate and its social cohesion.
It also vowed to apprehend the assailants and hold them accountable for their actions, adding that several policemen were injured in pursuit of the gunmen.
