Kuwait has encouraged Iran to continue cooperating with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and to follow the international law to end fears about the nature of the country's nuclear program.
The call was echoed by Charge d'Affaires at Kuwait's permanent delegation to the UN Farah Al-Gharabali, during the meeting of the UN's General Assembly.
This year will be the 50th anniversary of Kuwait joining the (IAEA), she said. Moreover, Al-Gharabali noted that Kuwait supports the agency's programs aiming to develop the use of nuclear power for peaceful purposes.
The official went on to say that Kuwait had contributed USD 10 million for the establishment of the IAEA's nuclear fuel bank to provide member countries with enriched nuclear fuel, without the need for them to have enrichment technology.
Meanwhile, the Charge d'Affaires said the country is also cooperating with the agency through a joint program approved in 2014, to execute various specialized projects.
Al-Gharabali called on the international community to pressure Israel into joining the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), also requesting the IAEA to monitor Israel's nuclear power plant.
All Middle Eastern countries have the right to possess nuclear technology for peaceful purposes, she noted, hoping that the region would be free of any kind of mass destruction weapons.
