1 dead, 1 injured in Westin Hotel shooting
Houston - XINHUA

A man was injured and another died of an apparently self-inflicted gun wound after several hours of standoff with the police at a hotel in the U.S. city of New Orleans Sunday, local media reported.
The shooting took place Sunday morning at a hotel in New Orleans' famous tourist district -- the French Quarter. Police said four men in their early twenties were involved, local TV WVUE reported.
Two of the men were awaken early morning by two others, one of whom was pointing a gun at the other. The suspect looked "dazed, confused and under the influence of something," the two witnesses later told the police.
After some argument, the suspect fired the gun, striking the victim in the chest. The other two men fled and alerted hotel personnel who notified the police.
SWAT teams arrived and attempted to enter the room, but the gunman pointed his weapon at the officers. After several hours of negotiations, officers heard a shot inside the room. They found the suspect dead at the scene, when they finally stormed into the room.
The injured man was sent to hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
Police said two guns were found in the room. Authorities have not released the identities of the four men. They are said to be friends who were spending their weekend having fun in the tourist city. No other details are available now.
