
One Tunisian soldier was killed and three others were injured on Friday in a landmine explosion at the Chaambi Mountain in Kasserine, near the Tunisian-Algerian borders, local media reported. Reports said the landmine exploded when an army transport vehicle was driving by during a patrolling operation. And the three injured soldiers were taken to the closest hospital for urgent medical treatment. Due to the deteriorating security situation in the border area, Tunisian Ministry of Defense announced on Thursday to classify the western borders as a military zone, including the Chaambi Mountain area, adding that the Tunisian army will continue its fight against terrorism in the region. Over 16 landmine explosions in the region have been reported since April 2013.
