As many as 11 people were hurt as a raised platform near an open-air cage with giraffes in Moscow’s Zoo collapsed, a spokesman for the Moscow department of the Russian Investigations Committee told Itar-Tass on Tuesday. According to the spokesman, initial reports, referring to eyewitnesses, put the number of those hurt at 13. “As it turned out, there were two adults who were hurt in the accident but who did not seek medical help. So, officially, eleven persons sought medical help after the accident,” he said. A criminal case has been opened over the accident on charges of offering services that do not comply with security requirements (article 238 of the Russian Criminal Code). “According to preliminary data, the platform was erected not long ago to conduct a promo action of a computer firm. During the action today, there were a lot of people, including children, near the cage,” the spokesman noted. There are three children among those hurt. “Two children with minor injuries refused to be hospitalized. The third one has an arm fracture,” the spokesman noted. One adult has spinal compression fracture, others have feet and ankle fractures, and other injuries. An investigation is underway.
