Thirteen suspected forest bandits were killed on Sunday during gunfights with police in the western Sundarbans province, police said.
Habibur Rahman, head of police of Khulna district, told Xinhua by phone that two bandits were killed early Sunday during an armed clash with patrolling police, who also detained 11 others.
Weapons were seized in the Hadda area in an ensuing raid. Police fired back after other bandits opened fire on them, Rahman said, adding that all the 11 pirates were killed in the second gunfight.
Six policemen were wounded in the shootout, he said.
Bandits often attack police and fishermen in the Sundarbans area and take fishermen hostages for ransom.
