Two people have been killed in a crash of an ultralight plane in central Israel on Sunday morning, Magen David Adom (Israeli Red Cross) said.
The aircraft had crashed in Rishon Lezion, a town nearly 10 km south of Tel Aviv, near an amusement park.
The pilot and the passenger had both died, as the plane burst into flames upon the crash, paramedics reported .
Police arrived at the scene and started an investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
It appears the pilot was trying to make an emergency landing, according to the police spokesperson Mickey Rosenfeld.
Some Israeli media outlets reported that the apparent cause for the accident was a technical malfunction. Another report by the Jerusalem Post charged the plane was stuck in a cloud of heavy fog shortly before the crash.
In August 2013, a light plane crashed near Eilat, killing one and seriously injuring two others, due to bad weather conditions.
