2 killed as rockets from Syria hit Turkish town Kilis

Three rocket projectiles fired from Syria hit Turkey's southern border province of Kilis on Friday, killing two people and injuring four others, private Dogan News Agency reported.

Katyusha rockets hit the city center, and are believe to have been fired from an Islamic State (IS) controlled region in Syria.

Earlier in the day, two other Katyusha rockets fired from the IS-ruled al-Bab town in northern Syria fell into an empty field in Kilis province but caused no casualties.

Turkish military fired retaliatory shells into al-Bab.

In recent weeks, Kilis has been repeatedly hit by rocket fire from territories in Syria in the hands of the IS militants.

On Friday, a people injured by another rocket projectile fired from al-Bab town in Syria on April 11 succumbed to his injuries in hospital on Friday.

Two people were killed and six were wounded in another rocket landing in Kilis on April 12.

Across the Turkish border near Kilis, the IS and Syrian opposition have been fighting to expand their control over the region between the towns of Azaz and al-Rai since early April.

While Ankara said it is battling the IS as part of a U.S.-led coalition, the extremist group also orchestrated a number of suicide bombings in Turkey's capital and Istanbul provinces, leaving hundreds killed.
