Wildfires during a heat wave in Spain have killed at least two people and forced more than 4,500 from their homes, officials said. A fire in Torremanzanas killed an environmental worker and a firefighter, El Pais reported Monday. At least two other people were injured, authorities said. Firefighters said carelessness was responsible for some of the fires that erupted last weekend in different parts of Spain, including La Gomera, Tenerife, Ourense, Huelva, Ciudad Real, Guadalajara and Alicante. Several thousand acres of forests, grasslands and farmlands have been burned, fire officials said. On the Canary Islands, more than 4,500 people were evacuated and up to 1,200 troops were deployed to help battle the blazes, El Pais said. In the Alicante region, fire forced the evacuation of 130 children at a vacation camp.
