3 PKK members killed in clashes with Turkish security forces

Three members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) were killed in clashes with Turkish security forces in the southeastern Sirnak province.

Seven persons, including two Turkish policemen, were also injured.

A police officer was seriously injured, a statement by the governor office reported.

The clashes erupted when PKK militants attacked the security forces using homemade explosives, long-range missiles and landmines, the statement added.

The violence comes amid rising tension between the Turkish security forces and the PKK, who are designated as a terrorist organization by Ankara.

Approximately 1,300 individuals suspected of involvement with the PKK have been arrested following a suicide bombing on a rally in Suruc, which killed 132 people in July.

The attack, among the worst experienced in Turkey, saw the government pledge to join the US-led coalition against Daesh, but also the resumption of a bombing campaign against PKK positions along the Iraqi and Syrian border.
