30 Workers die in new blaze tragedy in Bahrain

Thirteen workers were burned to death yesterday in the second deadliest fire involving labour camps in Bahrain. A fireman was also injured battling the blaze which gutted a three-storey building in the Mukharqa neighbourhood in Manama - used as a bachelor's pad - at about 4pm. The death toll could rise as firemen were late last night still searching the site for more victims after the roof of the building collapsed during the blaze. The dead workers have yet to be identified. His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa is following the tragedy and has ordered officials to ensure all help to the injured and the families of the victims, sources said. Quick action by the firemen prevented the blaze from spreading in the crowded area near the "Bengali Galli". Most of the victims were believed to be "free-visa" workers from Bangladesh, Pakistan and India, sources said. An inquiry has been ordered to find out the cause of the fire.
