3,300 in Moscow protest election results

Some 3,300 protesters crowded central Moscow Sunday alleging election fraud and demanding a new vote, police said. In a release, police said the protest was peaceful and no arrests were made, the RIA Novosti news agency reported. Demonstrations have taken place across the country since the Dec. 4 parliamentary election in which Prime Minister Vladimir Putin\'s ruling United Russia Party won 50 percent of the vote to retain a majority. Dozens of videos posted on the Internet show alleged ballot box-stuffing by elections officials. The demonstrators are calling for a rerun of the vote as well as the firing of Central Election Commission chief Vladimir Churov, the report said. Several political parties have also said they do not recognize the election results.
