French police on Saturday arrested some 40 people in a pro-Palestinian demonstration involving several thousand protestors over defying authorities' ban on violence risks, the news channel BFMTV reported.
Waving Palestinian flags and chanting slogans like "we are all Palestinians" to show their support with Palestinian people, demonstrators streaming to the capital's streets at 15:00 local time (1300 GMT), where 2,000 policemen have been deployed to secure safety.
In the demonstration, an Israeli flag was burnt in a move to denounce Israel's heavy attack on Hamas-controlled enclave that left 1,000 dead, mostly of them civilians and 40 Israeli victims.
The anti-Israeli rally turned violent after masked men in the Parisian square, La Place de La Republique, launched projectiles at riot police, who responded by firing tear gas, the report added.
"Violence, mainly anti-Semitic violence exists. We must face it...The organizers of the rally scheduled ...are the only responsible for any uncontrolled behavior and become subject to criminal penalties," Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said.
In a recent interview, French President Francois Hollande stressed that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict cannot be brought in France."
"I say very strongly: there will be no tolerance for any particular intrusion or uncontrolled behavior because anti-Semitism cannot be used because of the conflict between Israel and Palestine," he said.
