5 Die, 13 hurt in Kansas crash

A motor home pulling a trailer crashed in Kansas Sunday, killing five members of a Minnesota family and injuring 13 other people, friends said. The Kansas Highway Patrol said the motor home, described as a box truck converted for passenger use, struck a guardrail along Interstate 35 about 3 miles southwest of Williamsburg about 9:30 a.m. and careened into a ravine when the driver over-corrected, The Topeka Capital-Journal reported. The vehicle was en route from Texas to Minnesota, authorities told the newspaper. Several of the injured were children. At least four people were listed in critical condition, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported. Friends who talked to other family members told the Star Tribune those who had died were members of the Kerber family, which owns an auto shop outside Jordan, Minn. \"It\'s 100 percent sure,\" family friend Kathy Lapic said. Lapic said the family included Pauline Kerber, a widow, and 12 children ranging in age from 5 to young adults. Lapic said three of the children had stayed behind in Minnesota and she didn\'t know who else might have been on board.
