Five people were hit in a drive-by shooting in New Orleans Monday, police said. The shooting occurred near where the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade had passed 30 minutes earlier, but did not appear connected to the parade, The (New Orleans) Times-Picayune reported. The newspaper quoted New Orleans Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas as saying the shots were fired from a white, two-door sedan that drove by a grocery store. The shots were fired at a group of teenagers standing outside the store. Serpas said all of the victims were male, and were taken to a hospital for treatment. None of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening, the newspaper said. Serpas said the car was seen traveling down Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, before disappearing into the surrounding neighborhood. He added video surveillance would soon be available.
