
At least 53 Taliban militants were killed and 14 others were injured during military operations by Afghan national security forces in the past 24 hours.
The operations were jointly conducted by Afghan national police, Afghan national army and Afghan intelligence and National Directorate of Security operatives, according to the Afghan (Khaama Press).
Afghan Interior ministry said in a statement on Sunday that the militants were killed or injured in Kunduz, Kandahar, Logar, Paktia and Helmand provinces.
The statement further added that a number of the Taliban commanders were among those killed or injured and at least two Taliban militants were also arrested during the operations.
Afghan security forces confiscated various types of light and heavy weapons along with explosives during the operations, interior ministry said.
Afghan national police forces discovered and seized seven improvised explosive devices (IED) during operations in Baghlan, Logar, Khost and Nimroz provincesthe statement added.
Interior ministry said the IEDs were recently planted by Taliban militants for insurgency attacks.
Taliban militants group has not commented regarding the report so far.
