British soldier killed in Afghanistan

The British Ministry of Defence announced "with great sadness" that a soldier from the Royal Engineers was killed in Afghanistan on Monday. "The Serviceman was killed in action as a result of enemy fire whilst on operations east of Kabul," according to a statement by the ministry. The Serviceman's next of kin have been informed and have requested a period of grace before further details are released, it added.
