Seven men were shot and injured in a two shootings Oakland, Calif., Police Chief Sean Whent called "pretty brazen stuff." Officers said the men, ages of 23 to 31, were shot Monday at two crime scenes. Two of the injured were in critical condition, The (Oakland) Tribune reported. "This is really kind of outrageous," Whent said at one scene. "Six o'clock at night isn't that late at night. [There were] a fair number of rounds fired out here, so [this is] really pretty brazen stuff on the street corner at that time of day." A number of people were outside when the shooting occurred, residents told police, because of a barbecue. The Tribune said it wasn't known whether any of the men were related or what motivated the shooting. Police said Monday it wasn't clear whether the shooter or shooters approached on foot or in a vehicle. Whent said it was possible several people hit by bullets were targeted in the shooting. A neighborhood resident identified as Isabel, 56, told the Tribune she was walking with two friends outside a corner store when she heard gunfire. Her friends ran back into the store, but Isabel fell the ground as soon as she heard the first shot. "A bullet went straight through my ponytail, cut right through my hair," she said. "I hit the floor. Anytime you hear bullets, you drop. If I stood up, I might be dead."
