At least eight people have been confirmed killed in an attack by suspected Boko Haram members in Nigeria's northeastern state of Adamawa, an official said Tuesday.
The attack took place late Sunday in Kobachwa and other villages in Madagali district, and scores of other people were feared missing, Emmanuel Tsamdu, a state legislator told Xinhua.
Umaru Finitiri, a former leader at Adamawa state legislature, led local residents, especially hunters to chase away the insurgents, the official said, adding that recent terror attacks had forced locals to arm themselves.
The Nigerian military in March claimed to have cleared militants out of Madagali which at the time was the last district held by Boko Haram in Adamawa.
The district was taken by Boko Haram militants in August 2014, forcing residents to flee to nearby states.
