Nine people were shot and at least two were killed at a barber shop in Detroit, Michigan where gambling often takes place, police said Wednesday. Police were looking for two men who fled the scene in separate vehicles, Voice of Russia reported. "The location historically is known as a place where gambling took place so we're not sure if this was over bad debt, we have no idea," Detroit Police Chief James Craig told reporters. Police are looking for at least two suspects and two cars, a black Chevrolet Impala and a white Chevrolet Impala, that may have bullet holes in the back. Authorities have a stretch of the road closed off near the scene. Police had said previously that three people were killed in the shooting, but later said they could only confirm two fatalities. Craig said police were looking for at least one gunman and possibly a second. John Zakar, 26, said he was working at the Riviera Party Shoppe when he heard about 20 shots ring out about a block away and three wounded people ran into his store and hid. "I locked the door behind them and applied pressure to the wounds," Zakar said in a telephone interview. "We didn't let the people shooting come in and shoot". The shooting happened on Detroit's East side at about 6:15 pm EST, police spokeswoman Kelly Miner said.
