Afghan militancy, skirmishes claims 16 militants lives

The ongoing militancy and skirmishes have claimed the lives of 16 people, all insurgents since Saturday night, officials said Sunday.
In the latest violent incident, the units of police conducted ambush against Taliban in the northern Kunduz province early Sunday morning killing a dozen militants and injuring half a dozen others, a local official said.
"Units of police organized ambush against militants in Dasht-e- Archi district of Kunduz province at 03: 00 a.m. local time today leaving 12 rebels dead and injuring six others," district governor Nasirudin Saadi told Xinhua.
The ambuscade, he said conducted when a group of militants were passing a bridge inflicted the big blow to the armed insurgents.
There were no casualties on police, the official contended.
Kunduz province with Kunduz city as its capital, 250 km north of Kabul, has been the scene of Taliban-led insurgency over the past few years.
In the previous deadly incident which happened in Taliban former stronghold the southern Helmand province with Lashkar Gah as its capital 555 km south of Kabul on Saturday night, four would- be suicide bombers were killed, Interior Ministry said in a statement released here Sunday.
"Four militants wearing suicide vests were busy to plant a mine on the road in Gereshk district of Helmand province last night to target security personnel, when the device exploded prematurely killing all the four insurgents on the spot," the statement of Interior Ministry asserted.
Taliban militants who have intensified activities over the past couple of months against Afghan and NATO-led forces and are largely relying on suicide and roadside bombings have yet to make comment.
