Afghanistan is celebrating its 94th Independence Day on Monday following a series of events marking the day in the central capital Kabul and other major cities. The day dawned with a 21-cannon salute from the Ministry of Defence in Kabul following by the laying a floral wreath on the Freedom Monument by President of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai. Afghanistan has never been controlled fully by any country as they won freedom 94 years ago in the rule of King Ghazi Amanullah Khan. The US Secretary of State John Kerry greeted the people of Afghanistan on their Independence Day by saying that Afghanistan has made inspiring progress across many sectors, creating a better life for its citizens. A number of world leaders, including Russian, Korean, Bhutanese, Italian, Uzbekistan, Algerian and Australian leaders greeted President Karzai and wished peace and stability in Afghanistan.
