The remains of five members of a California family who died in a plane crash in Idaho were transferred to the Valley County coroner Wednesday, officials said. The victims -- the pilot, Dale Smith of San Jose; his son Daniel; his son's wife, Sheree; his daughter Amber; and her fiance, Jonathan Norton -- died when their plane crashed Dec. 1. The Idaho Army National Guard sent a Blackhawk helicopter and five soldiers to the area to help with the effort Wednesday, and all five bodies were recovered, Sgt. Rorie Sapp of the Valley County Sheriff's Office told the Idaho Statesman. The plane's wreckage will not be removed from the site. "The plane hit so hard and broke into so many pieces," Valley County Sheriff's Lt. Dan Smith said. "And it was an extremely hot fire." The family was flying in a Beech Bonanza from Baker City, Ore., to Butte, Mont., when Dale Smith reported engine trouble. His wife Janis wrote in a post on a website dedicated to the search for the victims that "we do know my family members on the plane died quickly and painlessly. They did not suffer."
