At least one person was killed and six others injured in a suicide car bombing that targeted a Lebanese army checkpoint in Beirut southern suburbs minutes after midnight between Monday and Tuesday, Aljadeed TV reported.
The TV station added that initial investigations showed that a suicide bomber, presumably a female, drove a Mercedes bomb-laden car into the checkpoint on Hadi Nasrallah Avenue. The security forces were chasing the car and firing at it before it exploded.
The TV quoted sources from the Lebanese Red Cross that medical unites transported six injured people to nearby hospitals, and removed the remains of the suicide bomber, a female most probably. The army soldiers have cordoned the area and shot into the air to prevent citizens from arriving at the scene of the explosion.
Last Friday, a suicide bomber targeted an Internal Security Forces (ISF) checkpoint in the Bekaa region of Dahr al Baidar, leaving an ISF officer killed and 34 others injured.
