At least 14 die in Spanish coach crash

The regional government of Murcia, southeast Spain, has confirmed that 13 people have died as a result of a coach accident in the region.
The accident, which happened in the town of Cieza at around 23:30 (2230 GMT) on Saturday night, also injured over 40 and is the third worst road accident in Spain since the year 2000.
Those on board were all from the small village of Bullas and were returning from attending a religious event in Madrid.
Twenty nine victims, among them the driver of the coach, are still receiving treatment in various hospitals in the region for a variety of injuries including broken bones, although 12 have been discharged.
The regional government has confirmed that the driver tested negative for drugs and alcohol, and excess speed and a possible loss of concentration are being considered as possible causes of the crash, although the driver is reported to have told the police that the brakes failed, before the coach left the road and rolled down a 15-meter slope.
This hypothesis is also being investigated, although the company J Ruiz which ran the bus has highlighted that the vehicle involved in the accident had successfully passed a safety inspection two days previously.
