At least 4 dead, 63 injured in New York train derailment

At least four people were killed and 63 others were injured when a passenger train derailed in New York City borough of Bronx early Sunday, according to local media reports. The Official Fire Department City of New York (FDNY) has confirmed that at least four people were killed and 11 more are in critical condition. Additionally, six people have serious but non-life-threatening injuries, and another 46 people suffered minor injuries. The train jumped the tracks near the Spuyten-Duyvil Station in the Bronx just before 7:30 am Sunday morning local time (1230 GMT), the New York fire officials said, and about 100 firefighters are responding to the scene. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority said the train derailed about 100 yards (91 meters) north of the station on a curved section of the track. But the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) said none of the cars entered the Hudson or Harlem rivers, which are adjacent. The MTA said the crash was reported by the engineer and it wasn't clear if any crew members are injured. Service has been suspended indefinitely on the Hudson Line, which runs along the Hudson River for the majority of its roughly 80-mile (128 kilometer) stretch. It is one of the busiest commuter lines into the United States' busiest train terminal. Amtrak trains also run along the line. It is not yet clear how they have been affected.
