Australian media authority starts probe into prank call

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has started an inquiry into the prank telephone call made by two Australian Radio Jockeys (RJs) to a hospital in London. The two radio presenters who called King Edward VII’s Hospital, pretended to be Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles and asked about the Duke of Cambridge Prince William’s pregnant wife the Duchess of Cambridge Catherine who was being treated at the hospital. Indian origin nurse Jacintha Saldanha who passed on the call to a colleague was found hanged along with a suicide note three days after answering the call from the Australia radio station. The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) will focus on the 2DayFM license holder and not directly on the presenters who made the call. It will be examining if “broadcasting obligations” were breached, BBC News reported Thursday. On Wednesday, speaking in the Commons, UK Prime Minister David Cameron called Saldanha’s death a “complete tragedy” and said lessons needed to be learnt.
