Two couples both claimed to be parents of a baby boy at an Indian hospital, while ignoring a girl born around the same time, officials said. Both fathers have said they will accept the girl -- if DNA testing proves she is biologically their daughter, The Times of India reported. The trouble began March 25 when Reshmi Devi and Poonam Kanwar gave birth in Umaid Hospital in Jaipur. Hospital staffers said Devi had a boy and Kanwar a girl, but through a mixup the boy was given to Kanwar. While Devi is home with the boy, Kanwar and her husband say the boy is theirs. The girl, now just over a week old, is still in the hospital, unclaimed. Lad Kumari Jain, head of the Rajasthan State Women\'s Commission, said the parentage of both children is equally uncertain. It is significant, she added, that all the fighting is over the boy. \"In districts of western Rajasthan including Jaisalmer and Barmer, cases of female feticide and infanticide are quite rampant due to a certain mindset,\" she said. \"In these areas, there used to be death wells for new born girls who were dumped into them after their murder.\"
