Belgian police clamped down on several places in Brussels following Tuesday's explosions at a Brussels international airport and a city metro station.
Thousands of employees left stranded at workplaces and homes upon instructions of the authorities, media reports said.
Besides closing schools, public transportation halted in the city until further notice.
