Portland - UPI

Recovery teams were ascending Mount Hood Sunday to collect a body they believe is that of an Oregon dentist who has been missing for a week. An Oregon Army National Guard Blackhawk helicopter crew spotted the body Saturday at the 8,400-foot level on the mountain, The (Portland) Oregonian reported. Officials stopped short of confirming the body is that of 59-year-old Dr. Kinley K. Adams, of Salem, but said it was found in the vicinity of his planned route. \"The area in which the body was located is on very difficult and technical terrain,\" a statement from the Clackamas County Sheriff\'s Office said Saturday. \"Due to the extreme risk teams will not be able to get to the area today. As the day gets warmer, risks of rock and snow slide increase.\" Adams was reported missing June 23 after he failed to return home from a one-day climb of Mount Hood. Adams has climbed Mount Hood several times and has climbed other difficult North American peaks, including Rainier and McKinley. He and his son once spent a week in a tent near the summit of McKinley, waiting for weather good enough to allow them to descend. He has been a member of the ski patrol in Santiam Pass for decades.
